Kinja'd!!!

Today is the third day in a row that I’ve ended up parked next to this 435x i gran coupe 5-door hatchback. Of course, my car is way cooler, Maryland rules, and Virginia drools.

Oh, and just for kicks, here’s a Plum Crazy Purple Challenger with a bunch of bird poop on it.

The purple one is basically the General Lee. It’s from VA and really doesn’t want to enter Maryland, but it’ll do it when absolutely necessary, like for work.

I guess that makes me Ulysses S. Grant, since I’d rather be commuting to somewhere in Maryland or DC. E xcept I’m not from Ohio.

Do you like drinking, though? :P

Better than McClellan, who would just drive around DC for a couple years and not get anything done...

How does this establish anything?

Also: Every part of Maryland I’ve been in was a shithole, if not actively dangerous. Most of Virginia that I can recall was nice...

1. My blue modded stick shift 335xi coupe with Maryland plate is cooler than the white stock automatic 435x i GC with Virginia plates.

2. What parts of Maryland have you visited?

3. I think you might be taking this a bit too seriously.

You should stick a 3 over the 4 on it. I would find it funny since that doesn’t cause any harm to things.

And if he doesn't find it funny, well, then he needs to learn what a couple is.

Eh, I wouldn’t want to live there, but it’s prettier and less annoying than anywhere else I’ve been in the DC metro . If I had to live somewhere around DC for work, I’d almost certainly live in VA.

Yes, but this has no bearing on the relative quality of each state.

Baltimore (garbage) and the DC suburbs (not as garbage, but still garbage). I have visions of that eastern tail that is split with Delaware being not too bad, but I have never had reason to go there.

Probably.

There are multiple counties of DC suburbs in Maryland, with millions of people in them. Some parts are nice, some aren’t. Where?

I do think Maryland plates are bad ass.

This design is new as of a couple years ago . It replaces the War of 1812 design that everybody hated.

Kinja'd!!!

The 90s/00s version with a simple white background, state name in script, and state emblem in the middle, was perfect IMHO. The 90s version without www.maryland.gov at the bottom was better.

The best thing I can say about the Maryland flag design is it has potential, but I don’t think it’s a good design in practice . It works on my car because the blue color and recessed tag frame provide contrast and make the flag design stand out .

Kinja'd!!!

There are two problems with the design .

On a light car color like white or silver, and no tag frame, the flag design on a large light colored surface tends to look garish.

Most cars have ugly dealer tag frames that cover up the bottom half of the flag design, and the part of the flag that’s left uncovered, combined with whatever writing is on the dealer frame, looks like a busy, jumbled mess.

But people in Maryland love all kinds of Maryland flag paraphernalia so maybe this design will last longer than the horrible War of 1812 ones.

Yeah, for sure. Although I don’t really like the VA side of the DC suburbs either...too built up for my taste. I’m from Richmond and I hate driving up that way.

I wish I could remember where I stayed on that side. I t was relatively suburban compared to DC, with green rolling hills. I recall it being along an interstate freeway, but have no clue about it beyond that.

Mind you, this was in 2001-2002 or so; it may have changed considerably.

Sounds like it might have been along I-66, which goes west/southwest out of DC and eventually  ends in the mountains. There’s been some growth out that way, but not as much as there has to the south on I-95. Once you get south of Fredericksburg it’s a totally different state.
